First aid certificates

HSE says employers should keep a record of first aiders and their certificate dates. Add each one above to build your list.

No certificates added yet.

The list is stored only in this browser. Nothing is sent to Amber Training. Untick to forget it when you leave.

Never let cover lapse

A first aider with an expired certificate no longer counts towards your cover, so a lapsed certificate can leave a shift or a site without a first aider. Book renewal a couple of months ahead, keep a list of everyone's expiry dates, and plan a short refresher each year in between. We deliver First Aid at Work, Emergency First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid at your premises.

Common questions

How long is a first aid certificate valid?

Workplace first aid certificates, including First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid at Work, are valid for three years from the date the course was completed. Paediatric First Aid certificates are also valid for three years, and the EYFS requires paediatric first aid training to be renewed every three years.

What happens when a first aid certificate expires?

Once it expires, HSE says the holder is no longer considered competent to act as a first aider at work until they requalify. Book renewal training before the expiry date so there is no gap in your cover.

How do you renew a First Aid at Work certificate?

With a two-day First Aid at Work requalification course, ideally before the certificate expires. Our requalification is open to certificates expired by up to a month. Between one and three months after expiry it is the employer's decision, and after three months the full three-day course is needed.

How do you renew an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate?

By taking the one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course again. HSE says the requalification course should be the same length and content as the original course.

Do first aiders need annual refresher training?

It is not a legal requirement, but HSE strongly recommends annual refresher training during each three-year certificate period, because skills such as CPR fade without practice.

Where is my list of certificates stored?

Only in your browser on this device, if you leave 'Remember this list on this device' ticked. Nothing is sent to Amber Training. You can print the list or download it as a spreadsheet at any time.
