First Aid Training for Housing Associations and Social Housing
Housing teams work in offices, on estates and in tenants' homes, often alone. We train housing officers, scheme staff and maintenance teams on site, matched to how each of them works.
Fixed prices: Emergency First Aid at Work £550, First Aid at Work £1,500 per session for up to 12 staff, on-site at your premises, all-inclusive.
Housing associations employ people in very different settings: head office and area offices, housing officers visiting tenants at home, staff in sheltered and supported housing, and repairs and maintenance teams. The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 apply to all of them, and a first aid needs assessment should look at each group separately rather than treat the organisation as one office.
We deliver Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work at your own office or a venue you choose, up to 12 people per session. Where you have more than 12 to train, we run two or more sessions under one quote.
Lone working is the defining first aid issue for housing teams. A housing officer on a tenancy visit, an income officer at a doorstep or a scheme manager covering a building alone may be the only person present when a tenant or colleague collapses. HSE expects employers to consider lone workers in their first aid needs assessment, which can mean training the people who work alone, giving them a suitable first aid kit and a reliable way to call for help. Our guide to first aid for lone workers covers this in more detail.
Sheltered and supported housing changes the picture again. Residents are often older or have health conditions, so falls, breathing difficulties, strokes and cardiac arrest are more likely, and staff are frequently first on the scene. First aid training does not replace care or clinical training, but it gives scheme staff the core emergency skills, including CPR and defibrillator use, and many schemes also host a defibrillator that staff should be confident to use.
Repairs and maintenance teams bring a different set of risks: cuts, falls from ladders, burns and injuries from power tools, often in occupied homes or empty properties. Where those risks are significant, the needs assessment may point to First Aid at Work for some of the team, while office colleagues train in the one-day course.
Who we typically train in Housing associations & social housing
A typical housing booking is an association training housing officers and office staff in Emergency First Aid at Work, with some scheme or maintenance staff taking First Aid at Work.
Lone and visiting work
Housing officers often visit tenants alone. Training gives them the confidence to act on their own until help arrives, and supports your lone working arrangements.
Right level for each team
Emergency First Aid at Work for office and visiting staff; First Aid at Work for sheltered scheme staff or maintenance teams where the needs assessment calls for it.
Larger groups in one day
Each session is up to 12 people. For larger teams we run two or more sessions under one quote, so a whole department is covered without separate bookings.
Recommended courses
Office-based and visiting housing staff usually need the one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course. Sheltered and supported housing staff, and repairs or maintenance teams using tools and working at height, may need the three-day First Aid at Work course, depending on your needs assessment.
We trained Eldon Housing Association's staff in Emergency First Aid at Work as two groups of 12 on the same day in central Croydon. You can read how it ran in our case studies.

Housing associations & social housing first aid training: common questions
Do housing officers who visit tenants alone need first aid training?
Your first aid needs assessment should consider lone and visiting workers specifically. For staff who are often on their own, training them in Emergency First Aid at Work, with a suitable kit and a way to summon help, is a common and practical answer.
Which course do sheltered housing staff need?
It depends on your needs assessment. Many sheltered and supported schemes train some staff in the three-day First Aid at Work course because residents are more vulnerable, with other staff in the one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course.
Can you train more than 12 people on one day?
Yes. Each session is up to 12 people, so for larger numbers we run two or more sessions under one quote. For a housing association in Croydon we trained 24 staff as two groups of 12.
Can you deliver at a venue other than our office?
Yes. We can train at your office, a scheme's communal room or a hired meeting venue, and we can adapt if the venue changes before the course.
