First Aid Training for Nurseries & Early Years Settings

Early years settings have specific statutory first aid duties under the EYFS. We deliver paediatric first aid and workplace first aid on site at your nursery, across London.

Nurseries, pre-schools and childminders in England work under the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework, which sets clear expectations for paediatric first aid (PFA). Ofsted checks that settings have enough staff with current, full paediatric first aid training, and that someone with PFA is always available to children, including on outings.

We deliver paediatric first aid on site at your setting, around your day and your ratios, for up to 12 staff at once. We also provide workplace first aid where your wider team needs it. Everyone leaves certified, with the records you need for your EYFS file and Ofsted inspections.

EYFS and Ofsted aligned

Our paediatric training meets the content expected under the EYFS so you can evidence compliance at inspection.

Trained at your setting

We come to your nursery and work around nap times, ratios and pick-up, so children's routines are protected.

Babies and young children

The course covers the conditions that matter most in early years: choking, febrile seizures, allergic reactions, breathing difficulties and child CPR.

Recommended courses

Early years staff working towards EYFS ratios need full paediatric first aid (PFA). Office-based or ancillary nursery staff may also benefit from Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW). We can advise on the mix.

Nurseries & early years first aid training: common questions

Does our nursery need paediatric first aid for EYFS?

Yes. The EYFS statutory framework requires early years settings to have staff with current, full paediatric first aid training, and to have a paediatric first aider available to children at all times, including on outings.

Can you deliver paediatric first aid on an INSET day?

Yes. We regularly run sessions on INSET or closure days, or split across times that fit your ratios so the setting keeps running.

How long is the paediatric first aid certificate valid?

Paediatric first aid certificates are valid for three years. We can set up a reminder schedule so your setting never falls out of date.

Do childminders need this too?

Yes. Childminders and their assistants caring for early years children are expected to hold a current full paediatric first aid certificate under the EYFS.
