In-House First Aid Training for Businesses in London

Accredited first aid courses for your staff, run as a private session at your workplace. Here is how in-house training works from the employer's side: choosing the course, numbers, what we need from you, the day itself and the records you keep.

Emergency First Aid at Work £550 and First Aid at Work £1,500 per group of up to 12, at your workplace, final and all-inclusive.

No payment needed to book. We reply within 24 hours.

How in-house training works for an employer

In-house first aid training means the course comes to your staff rather than your staff going to a training centre. We run a private session for your team only, at your own premises or at a venue you choose, using the same accredited qualifications as any public course. Your people train with colleagues, in a room they know, and the scenarios can reflect your actual workplace.

For the person organising it, usually someone in HR, an office manager or a health and safety lead, the work is short. You choose the course, give us an idea of numbers and dates, and book a room. We bring everything else, run the day, assess each delegate and send you the certificates afterwards.

Step 1: choose the right course

Your first aid needs assessment decides which course you need, under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981. In practice most employers choose one of two courses:

  • Emergency First Aid at Work: one day (6 hours of teaching, plus breaks). It suits offices, shops, hospitality and other lower-risk workplaces.
  • First Aid at Work: three days (18 hours of teaching). It is for higher-risk workplaces and for designated first aiders who need to deal with a wider range of injuries and medical emergencies.
  • Already have First Aid at Work first aiders whose certificates are due to expire? They can renew on the two-day First Aid at Work Requalification.

If you have not completed a needs assessment yet, our first aid needs assessment checklist walks you through it, and the first aid needs calculator gives a starting figure for how many first aiders you need.

Step 2: work out how many staff to train

Each session takes up to 12 delegates. That limit keeps the practical work properly supervised, so every person gets enough time on the manikins and is assessed fairly.

More than 12 staff. We run two or more sessions and send one quote for the whole team. You can schedule them close together to train everyone quickly, or spread them out so cover is never thin on the ground while people are in training.

More than one site. If your staff are spread across several offices, shops or depots, we can run sessions at each location, or train everyone at one site if that is easier for you. Travel within London and the surrounding counties is included; elsewhere in England, travel is confirmed in the quote.

Train more first aiders than the bare minimum. Holidays, sickness, part-time hours and hybrid working all leave gaps, and a first aider who is not in the building does not count on the day.

Step 3: what we need from you

  • A room with clear floor space. Delegates practise CPR and the recovery position on the floor, so a meeting room with the table pushed back works well. Chairs for everyone, and tables if possible for the written assessment.
  • A screen if possible. A TV or projector the trainer can connect to helps with slides. It is useful, not essential.
  • Building access. If your building has a reception or security desk, let them know the trainer is coming so setup can start on time.
  • Delegate names. The names as they should appear on the certificates.

Our trainer brings the manikins, defibrillator trainers, bandages and dressings, and all course materials. There is nothing for you to buy or hire.

Step 4: the day itself

The trainer arrives before the start time to set up. The course mixes short explanations with a lot of hands-on practice: CPR and defibrillator use, choking, the unresponsive casualty, bleeding and shock, and, on First Aid at Work, a wider range of injuries and illnesses. Teaching time is 6 hours a day, with breaks and lunch on top, so a one-day course fills a normal working day.

Assessment is practical and written. The trainer observes each delegate during the practical work, and there is a short written assessment. Everything assessed is taught on the course. We can run sessions on weekdays or on a Saturday, which some employers prefer so the office is quieter and nobody misses client work.

Step 5: certificates and records

Every delegate who passes receives an Ofqual-regulated FAA Level 3 Award (First Aid Awards), issued through Nuco Training and valid for three years. Certificates are emailed, usually the day after the training. If your email system blocks attachments of a certain type, tell us and we will send them in a form that gets through.

Keep the certificates with your first aid needs assessment as evidence of your provision, and note the expiry dates. Our certificate checker works out renewal dates for each first aider. See our accreditation and credentials page for what the qualification means for an auditor.

Price per group, not per person

In-house training is priced per group of up to 12, so the more people you train in a session, the lower the cost per person. Prices are final and all-inclusive: the trainer, equipment, certificates and travel within London and the surrounding counties.

Emergency First Aid at Work (1 day)

£550 per group of up to 12, about £46 a person for a full group

First Aid at Work (3 days)

£1,500 per group of up to 12, about £125 a person for a full group

Our case studies follow four real bookings from first enquiry to certificates: a hotel near Heathrow, a housing association that grew from one group to two, a Covent Garden organisation trained at a partner’s City offices, and an office team in Palmers Green trained on a Saturday.

In-house first aid training: common questions

What is in-house first aid training?

In-house first aid training is a private course run for your own staff at your workplace, or a venue you choose. Our trainer comes to you with all the equipment, and your team trains together. We do not run public courses or sell individual places.

Which course should our staff take?

Most offices, shops and other lower-risk workplaces need Emergency First Aid at Work, a one-day course. Higher-risk workplaces, or employers whose first aid needs assessment calls for fully trained first aiders, need the three-day First Aid at Work course. If you are not sure, tell us about your workplace in the quote form and we will advise.

How many staff can we train in one session?

Up to 12 people per session. For more than 12 staff we run two or more sessions and send one quote for the whole team.

What do we need to provide?

A room with enough clear floor space for practical work, with chairs and ideally tables. A screen or TV the trainer can connect to is useful but not essential. Our trainer brings the manikins, defibrillator trainers and all course materials.

Can the training run on a Saturday?

Yes. We can run sessions on a weekday or a Saturday, so the training does not have to take people away from busy working days.

How much does in-house first aid training cost?

Emergency First Aid at Work is £550 per group of up to 12, and First Aid at Work is £1,500 per group of up to 12. The price covers the trainer, equipment, certificates and travel within London and the surrounding counties. It is final and all-inclusive, and no payment is needed to book.

What records do we get afterwards?

Each delegate who passes receives an Ofqual-regulated FAA Level 3 Award certificate, issued through Nuco Training and valid for three years. Certificates are emailed, usually the day after the training, and you also get a training record for your compliance file.
