Preparing for your course
This page sets out what we need from you before your first aid training at your venue, and what our trainer brings on the day.
Before the day
- A room with clear floor space, chairs for every delegate and, ideally, tables
- A screen or TV the trainer can connect a laptop to, if the room has one
- Delegates in comfortable clothing for practical work on the floor
- Reception or security told that the trainer is arriving
- Delegate names as they should appear on the certificates
The training room

Delegates practise CPR, the recovery position and other skills on the floor, so the room needs clear floor space as well as seating. A meeting room with the table moved to one side works well.
- Chairs for every delegate, and tables if possible for the written assessment.
- A screen or TV the trainer can connect a laptop to, for the course slides. It is useful, not essential.
Your delegates
Delegates should wear comfortable clothing and footwear they can kneel and move in, as much of the course is practical work on the floor.
Send us each delegate’s name as it should appear on their certificate. If a delegate has an injury, disability or medical condition that may affect the practical work, tell us before the course so the trainer can plan for it.
Delegates attend the whole course to be certificated, so arrange cover for their usual work for the full day or days.
Arrival and building access
Our trainer arrives before the start time to set up the room. Let your reception or security team know the trainer’s arrival time so they can sign the trainer in without delay.
Send any access instructions, parking arrangements or loading details by replying to your confirmation email.
Start and finish times
Start and finish times are agreed in your booking. Each course day has six hours of teaching, plus breaks and lunch.
- Emergency First Aid at Work is one day.
- First Aid at Work runs over three consecutive days.
- First Aid at Work Requalification runs over two consecutive days.
What our trainer brings
- CPR manikins
- A defibrillator (AED) trainer
- Dressings, bandages and other practical equipment
- Course materials for every delegate
There is nothing for you to buy or hire.
Certificates
Each delegate who passes receives an Ofqual-regulated FAA Level 3 Award, issued through Nuco Training and valid for three years. Certificates are issued by email the next working day.
Keep the certificates with your first aid needs assessment, and note each expiry date. The free first aid certificate checker works out renewal dates for your team, and the first aid notice tells your staff who your new first aiders are.
