First Aid Training for Small Businesses and Small Teams

Most small businesses need one or two trained first aiders. We train your team at your own premises, and because our session price of £550 covers up to 12 people, many small businesses train everyone in one day. For one or two people, or anything different, request a personalised quote.

Emergency First Aid at Work £550 and First Aid at Work £1,500 per session for up to 12 staff. Fewer people or a different arrangement: request a personalised quote.

What a small business actually needs

Every employer must provide adequate first aid under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981, whatever its size. For a small, lower-risk business such as an office, shop, salon or studio, that usually means a stocked first aid kit, a person who takes charge if someone is hurt, and information for staff on what to do.

HSE’s guidance suggests that a lower-risk workplace with fewer than 25 staff needs at least one appointed person. Many small businesses go further and train one or two people in Emergency First Aid at Work, the one-day course, because an appointed person is not trained to give first aid. Higher-risk work, such as construction, workshops or warehousing, usually needs First Aid at Work. The free first aid needs calculator gives a starting figure for your workplace.

Three ways to train a small team

  1. Train the whole team. The session price covers up to 12 people, so a team of five, eight or ten trains together in one day at your premises. Everyone can act in an emergency, and holidays and sickness never leave you uncovered.
  2. Share a session. Businesses in the same building, on the same street or in a network can share a session of up to 12 at one venue.
  3. Train one or two people. Request a personalised quote with your numbers, location and dates, and we reply within one working day.

What every delegate receives

A full day of practical training at your premises, assessed in person by a qualified trainer, and an Ofqual-regulated FAA Level 3 Award certificate, issued through Nuco Training and emailed the next working day. The certificate is valid for three years. Our accreditation page lists the qualification numbers and our trainers’ credentials.

Small group first aid training: common questions

How many first aiders does a small business need?

Your first aid needs assessment decides. As a starting point, HSE's guidance suggests that a lower-risk workplace with fewer than 25 staff needs at least one appointed person to take charge of first aid, and many small businesses train one or two people in Emergency First Aid at Work so someone qualified is always on site.

We only need one or two people trained. Can you help?

Yes. Request a personalised quote with your team size, location and preferred dates, and we will reply with a price and dates for your group within one working day.

Is it worth training the whole team?

Often, yes. Our session price of £550 covers up to 12 people, so a team of five or eight can all train in one day for the same price. Everyone who passes holds an Ofqual-regulated certificate for three years, so first aid cover never depends on one person being in.

Where does the training take place?

At your premises: an office, shop, salon, studio, workshop or community hall. We bring all the equipment. You provide a room with space for practical work.

Can two small businesses share a session?

Yes. Neighbouring businesses, or several organisations in one building, can share a session of up to 12 at one venue. Request a personalised quote and tell us who is joining.
